Saint is very similar to Angel and To Your Scattered Bodies go. The central figure is stolen once again from Thomas Malic. Almost as if I was reaching back trying to grasp something lost.

The other elements are quite interesting. The blue background is a closeup of Steven R. Gilmore’s cover for Mind: The Perpetual Intercourse by Skinny Puppy. Two great influences on me as a person and artist. I have to get back to this idea of sampling album covers. It’s a great idea!

I had several color copies of that Skinny Puppy album cover because I was crafting a front license plate for my car. Yeah, I was making a custom Skinny Puppy vanity plate. Yeah, what of it?

Then the requisite halo from a perfume advertisement and hole punches of red. This is the first use of the hole punch in my work. As far as I can remember.

Get ready though. I have a few pieces coming up where I lose my mind with a hole punch.

This Saint piece still has that homoerotic feel that the other two proto pieces have. And later the Holepunch pieces will also show a similar perspective albeit a bit obscured. Almost closeted. But that’s a discussion for those posts.

  1. it is good and does not warrant the retooling but it is interesting that the background was derived from a modified version of an album cover because that would be my first impression of the final piece: a great album cover, some flemish eye or orange twin classic.

    1. Of course you name two record labels I had to google. Fortunately I knew a couple of the acts. Unfortunately they were only the obvious ones; Neutral Milk Hotel and Braids. Guess I need to find out more about them both.

I would love to do covers. I actually got an offer recently from a mutual friend and flaked due to working on the MAZE Series. There just isn’t enough time. Or I am poorly managing the time I do have.

      Thanks Zachary!
