You may wonder why I would post a series of pictures of clouds. For some reason I always take pictures of clouds and the sky. I aim up as much as down.
It could also have something to do with 23 Envelope’s cover for Love’s Easy Tears. I have only said it a million times before how influential that band and those covers were. It’s so rare to find true originals especially in this current reality.
So the set contains images of the chill out room at PS1 in Long Island City. The very same room I have ragged on in a previous post. It’s fun the first couple of times you visit, but after this many years in, it really needs to get the axe.
With the exception of the musical curation, that whole event needs an overhaul. More local and unknown artists. Less Matthew Barney. More work. Less empty rooms. Oh and maybe the security staff can stop acting like bored and sleepy Nazis.
And then the set alternates with images of just pretty cloud shots. Hey, I love just plain old pretty. Beautiful color. Wispy organic shapes. These are similar to the two Floral sets because the only point is love of beauty.
I guess everything I do is all love of beauty. But there is no overarching distortion of the idea. No contextual switcheroo. No in jokes. No hocus pocus.
I just always look up. Even when most New Yorkers think it touristy to look up, I look up and shoot the buildings and sky. To quote Kate.
” You never really understood me. You never really tried. That cloud, that cloud, looks like Ireland.”
