This is the beginning of the DVR Glitch series of photos. At the time Ernesto Repetto and I started to notice that our DVR would do great things to the video. Releasing bits of jpeg compression artifacts in fun ways. So we started to shoot them with my Canon point and shoot.
I only mention that it’s a Canon because they have sent me free cameras to replace a camera that was way out of warranty. Easily one of the best customer support scenarios I have been through. So I give a momentary plug to a company that has done pretty good by me.
Back to the story…so Ernie and I started shooting these pieces. Ernie would move frame by frame while I shot. After 7 years of this we both have it down to a science. We also have gotten much better at capturing more and better glitches.
Here I only get three that I love. All from America’s Next Top Model’s first season. Back in the glory days of Janice Dickinson. The original ahem, supermodel. Holy trinity of Naomi, Christy and Linda be damned.
It’s a good primer for the rest of the set. Each listed by the year the photos were created. It’s tiny because we did less back then. As with most things it will swell and dwindle due to quality and personal interest on both our parts.
It doesn’t help that we no longer have a Scientific Atlanta box which was notorious for create these glitches. The new box we got this year is a Samsung and seems to do it far less.
So this is the beginning of the digital photography series as a whole. More to follow from street art to buildings to cityscapes. I have been shooting images for years. It might shed a bit of light on what inspires me to create the other pieces I make.
