Second in the Silhouettes Series reminds me of John Pattavina’s Facebook post. He was ragging on the cliché of a single tree in silhouette against the sky. I know, it’s well tread territory but it is possible that a simple visual draw like this could create something new in my work.
I shoot them instinctively without questioning it. For the most part I trust my instincts. There are times when I second guess things I feel and then I over think the process or idea.
I choose my gut. It’s really the only thing I have ever owned. Now I just need to turn it around. Adjust those instincts. Distort them so that I can perceive and create something new.
Clichéd or not, these images are lovely. Simple. Beautiful documents of nature. Just because the sun has set a million times, it’s not an opportunity to show how jaded you are.
Not saying that Mr. Pattavina’s jaded. His comment was hysterical. It made me laugh. Making people laugh is as important as anything else on this planet.
Maybe clichés are equally important. I guess I need to find a way to exploit this idea that allows me to provide a new context for the cliché.
