Street Marks 2 is exactly the kind of hidden occult symbology I was speaking about in an earlier post. Male symbols and tridents united. Something new but also functional.
The textures in this piece are also stunning. With cigarette butts added for further interest. It’s a map of both the street and what is underneath and it maps the thrown away bits of everyday life.
The subject matter is still not coming for those plexiglass pieces. They really need to be broad and narrative. Broad literally, as in large horizontals with backgrounds that mimic the landscape series.
Because the base is plexiglass, I am immediately drawn to the idea of stained glass. No overt references, just a borrowing of the assemblage method that will work well with the cutter.
They also need a paint element. Garish colors painted in thick sheets on glass and then peeled and run through the cutter for shape definition. I worry about this process grinding against the limits of the cutter.
Now I just need the imagery for the demo pieces to come to my mind. Should I photograph from the television or just create from magazine cuts? I need my muse right now.
