Spoon

Pencil
Spoon is an old one. Pencil on a gesso covered board. The mission was to draw an object the professor provided in a pile in the front of the class.
I chose to be snarky and do a self-portrait at the same time. The spoon was so scarred from use that this is the result.
Why am I posting this ancient piece now? Because it shows the same groove my needle has been riding for years. Notice the similarities?
The concepts of distortion, reflection and my addiction to self-portraiture are all here at such an early age. A far cry from some recent mixed media pieces but everything else is in tact.
How do I update these ideas with my current skillset? What would the equivalent look like today? It’s an interesting question that provides me an inroad back to old ideas.
One thing that must happen is a return to regular drawing. Doodling with no objective. Pure creation for the sake of creation.
I already have the sketchbook ready to go. Now I just need to finish those piles of To Do lists. Then get this madness on. Hopefully by next year I will be working on more than just this site.
