Number four in the MPRSS_HRNT series has me landing on familiar celebrity territory because it’s Rihanna. Rihanna hawking some hair color or Cover Girl product. Did she do a hair color campaign?

This is one of those missteps that invariably crops up in my series. I like all the components individually. The Mondrian-esque background. The golden spray of gold leaf and gold hair via Donna Karan. The white of those austere and boring Clinique ads.

In the end though, there is something I don’t love about this one. It’s elusive because even writing this I can’t seem to put my finger on it. Anyone? Please join in.

Now thinking about it, I feel the hairnet should have been more delicate. Tinier cuts to mitigate all that white. And the jewelry could have been distorted better. Maybe tweaked to the extreme.

I do love the jewelry choice conceptually. I thought at the time that if I completely sealed her nose off, maybe just maybe she would stop singing through it. Alas, some wishes in life always go unfulfilled.

I think this piece is easily in the bottom three of weak pieces in this series. I should always buy doubles of the magazines so I could go back and redo the exact same piece but better.
