Lindsay Sentinel was another very early piece in the PR-RAW Series. Everything always starts like this for me. Just a tiny bit of goofiness here, then a bit there, the a huge gestation period and bam.
Nothing wrong with this image overall. Except for a lack of thickness in line variation. But I was going for a coloring book look. Children don’t need variation in line thickness.
Or maybe they do. I loved them in comics so maybe I am just wrong and that explains why this piece was never finished. Although I also think the imagery is a bit hackneyed.
It isn’t well thought out. It was just coming at me in flashes of ideas and I was grabbing anything close at hand. A coloring book, a horse head from the internet, sample a comic and then grab that celebrity rag.
So many of these pieces start like this. Then they go through a million opportunities for failure. Like any birth, it’s amazing that any of them end up complete.
Even more amazing that some end up stunning. Especially fun when the stunners are unexpected. That’s a fun thing anywhere in life.
