Now with the raw material issue solved, I need to assess what is going right so far.
The use of gel medium to cover the images before cutting is a great way of protecting the image. It adds a little weight to the paper and provides a nice base for the final finishing layer.
The main issues after this point are the adhesive for the piece and mitigating the size of the cut pieces. These issues are still unresolved.
It’s still obvious that the glue needs to be brush based or have a brush based component. It’s something that needs researching.
The next solution involves how to create the cut lines while simultaneously creating pieces that are less intricate. While at the same time maintaining an interesting complexity to the cut.
This hurdle will only be accomplished by working with many images over time. This will help with the understanding of how Illustrator is converting these line images into the actual cut SVG files.
Once I get the right settings it should make the whole process easier. An easier process would allow for greater success but will it eliminate the interesting intricacy seen in these past three digital versions of Karlie Kloss?
Guess we will find out later this year.
