In the seventh image of the Itek self-portrait series of none other than me, Craig Ashby, I feature the facepalm. You can almost hear the groan that prefaced this image.
Those three stacked halftone layers behind my head. A nice stairway, although a bit precarious. This image is one of the great ones in this series. I still have moments when I feel this way. When I write moments, I mean hourly.
The Itek does a great job of removing depth while still retaining shading details of pure 3D. Check the shadows moving around the ball chain. It’s a lovely trick that makes these images look more like illustrations. They remind me for a brief flicker of the trickery of cell shading. Reducing color range but still implying 3D shapes in a 2D format.
Some people have still questioned whether they are Photoshopped. Nope to the shopped. Just me in the jaws of death risking my life for a self-portrait.
Once again, everything I have posted here is a physical object. No digital images have been posted yet. Eventually I will post some digital camera images. They will be clearly marked as such.
