Fritz Extra 1 is the start of all the additional work that went into the Fritz self portrait. This one being an inkjet print of the Photoshop file. It is reversed because that is how transfers work.
I thought it would be good to show the piece without all the layers. Just the color bit for clarity. It shows the complexity of the digital work.
Most of this style of pieces start off with a complex digital piece. The digital file taking months to get it just right before I actually make the final piece. The final piece taking a bit longer to bring it into reality.
Just the white chain link grid was a huge task. Sampled from a photograph I had taken. Pulled into Illustrator and vectorized before working it in. These patterns alone are time consuming.
Then counting the twin white diamonds from the singles. Planned ahead to let the under layer peak through. The white in this case allowing the woodgrain to shine.
It’s all about carefully balancing the project. And firmly seeing a final product. While at the same time mitigating the problems that occur during the process.
