DJ Mix

Fourth in the archival postings, this DJ Mix features a lot of John Dahlback house and once again En Masse is present. Although the sound in this mix is radically different to the previous post.

This mix is less about big name personalities. Just lots of music that is dancefloor ready. It’s more about a series of songs that I loved than featuring a remix of Crystal Castles or Chromatics.

I only veer at the very end, reaching all the way back to Cabaret Voltaire. Everyone needs to reach back to Cabaret Voltaire.

One thing that truly bothers me today about popular music today is how it exists in a vacuum of now. Younger people I know can’t seem to name check anyone before their date of birth. This leads to people thinking the bands that were around when they were children are interesting or relevant well beyond the actual relevance of such bands.

In every DJ Mix, I try to include a song that is a little out of place. Something a bit older that is reminiscent of the current sound I am trying to create. I love showing threads of ideas through a timeline.

Thematically, I can hear the progression of sound I was into at that moment. Lots of distorted synth and sidechain compression. Things that still are oppressively present today.

The cover contains a photo of a Mercedes-Benz covered in red paint. Someone was really pissed off at the owner. When I found the car on the north side of my street I immediately took pictures. A white Mercedes-Benz covered in red paint was a gift from the universe. The bottom panel is a photograph of cherry blossoms in Central Park.

Download or listen to the 320 kbps directly from my site here. As always though, please use the soundcloud embedded track if it is available.
