This is the second time I have written this post thanks to an update failure on the part of the WordPress mobile app. Thanks WordPress. Just joking. I love my WordPress site.
So back to the picture. It’s one of those over the top Christmas displays you only get in New York. High concept with no intention of selling anything but spectacle.
No product on display just a vague reference to floods, global warming and wealth. It’s reference to wealth being unintentional and obvious to most everyone but the creator.
The original post writing for this covered how Ernie and I stumbled along this monstrosity at Bloomingdales. A nightmare that had lines with velvet ropes and bouncers like some exclusive club. A nightmare we found on one of our treks around the city to procure holiday supplies.
Overall good memories of beautifully prepared holiday meals. Downtime in the city with my greatest friend. And some good pictures to boot.
Still there is this nagging feeling that these displays are tiny mirrors of the excessive art displays that fill the galleries and museums now. As above, so below. In some way these are more truthful by placing the emphasis purely on commerce instead of using locale and context to provide the capital A for their work.
