Bowl

Bowl is a a shot through a porthole window. The window itself being a repurposed bowl that had been affixed to the hole. A strange find, which is high praise in a city of strange finds.
I always noticed the distortion through the glass. But until I took this shot I couldn’t make out the markings on the bottom that made me know it was a bowl.
Strange that they would repurpose a bowl for a porthole window. Why take the time to create a custom metal fitting just to use an ordinary household bowl? Weirdness abounds all around New York City.
Otherwise the image suggests Egypt. The pyramid finally visible because the lights are rarely on in this building. A peek at a magical ritual maybe? Maybe just a bad mural.
It’s a strange image. A secret glimpse into someone’s life or work. Looking behind the veil. This is a constant motivation for me. Voyeurism at its most obscure.
One of the main motivations for moving to New York City was my obsession with staring at people and peeking about. It’s the reason I wear dark sunglasses, so nobody can see my blatant staring. There is no better city in North America to do this.
