2005 Fan Dance October

Final Fan Dance from October of 2005. I changed the batteries and got the white LEDs back for a bit. I might have banged the device on the counter to get a few more images out of the swag.

Maybe the banging explains why the white sometimes skews to blue. Or maybe we just used the device so much that failure was inevitable.

I took a step back with this particular set. No distortion. Not as many zooms. Just trying to capture the mathematical loops produced by LEDs rotating and moving.

The first image in the set is wonderful. Perfectly framed. Complex. Just the perfect amount of light creating a great shape.

It is also a testament to Ernesto Repetto and I working together in harmony. Perfectly and joyously creating. Experiencing delight in the process and final development. A definite high point.

Notice also how these pieces conceptually are akin to the Heaven or Las Vegas set and the Fireworks sets. Both are extended shutter shots focusing on light and color. Massive light trails harkening back to my dancing days.

At the same time they also mimic the Street Paint series. Graffiti in light similar to tags and alien typography. They both are temporary pieces only sustained by photography.

I am trying to provide context for why I am sharing these pieces. A linear timeline that explains what I do and how it molds what I create. I hope these sets are helping you understand what I make and how I perceive beauty. But more importantly that I am always creating.

The difference between these and my dancing days is that rather than being lost in a drug haze these ideas have been captured. This is work not memory. Although without the drug haze memories none of this would have been possible.
