2005 Shredded

The second set in the Shredded Series sees more beauty in destruction. These pictures evoke Pollock and Twombly and all the abstract expressionists that paved this road.

Once again the destruction and wear are utilized in many of my pieces. I do think that I haven’t taken full advantage of this idea. I want to take the idea too far in my work.

In an attempt to take a break from the current series, I am getting ready to start a series of free form pieces. Not that the new series is taxing or on my last nerve or anything. It’s just a continuation of both the MAZE Series and an offshoot of the MPRSS_HRNT Series. It’s a bit consuming.

Back to the idea of free form pieces. I wanted to do some pieces with no intent other than freedom and experimentation. I need to use this idea.

Because of these photos, I have wanted to do a series of collages where each layer was ripped from the backing. Then apply another layer. Rip that layer. Rinse and repeat.

But it should also have more experimentation. Dirt, paint, markers, ink, spray paint. They need to be too much and less rigid. These photos should be one of the points of inspiration.

  1. Hey Craig! Before I read your description of the pictures, all I could think of as your inspiration, was Pollock. He is my absolute fucking favorite. You are capturing Pollock as if he was making a tribute to Picasso in his cubism moment! I know that’s just my opinion, and I know I don’t know much but, anything “Pollack-ish” gets a stamp of approvall (sp?) from me. Thank you for sharing your art.

    1. Aww, Josh! I too love Pollock and earlier in the series I mentioned all the numerous painters these remind me of. But definitely Pollock. So bring on the opinions…Thanks, Josh!
