First in the Serialization Series touches on another idea I work with frequently. Those repetitive images. Grids, concentric circles, stacks of things. Or even just repeating alien pipe work. I have shown numerous times how connected my work is to pop art, here you can see the attraction to mass manufacture and repetition.
The blue light in a bar bathroom. I always shoot lights. The multicolored fluorescent tubes are from a Louis Vuitton display up near Central Park. It’s a constant draw to my mind and eye.
Then I move on to those reflective crash panels. In black, white and rust. It’s the rust dots that made me take notice. That and the burn of the white underneath the flash.
The weird water tubing pieces were from a Fourth of July that Ernie and I went to shoot. On the way down, I snapped those pictures. Apparently this is what they do before they lay grass or cement. I have no idea. I just love organic repetition of shapes.
All those connectors of different varieties and different tubes. It just looked amazing so I had to stop and shoot it. It just drew me in as do all these pictures.
I do wonder if it’s possible to change my eye. To move on from ideas that developed in my youth. To alter how I perceive things.
