Another favorite set of pictures, Wooden Bridge also documents an interesting moment in my neighborhood. On the backside of Port Authority in 2003 they covered the three bus entry ramps entirely in wood. Apparently in an attempt to reinforce the concrete structure.
These are massive bridge ramps that are somewhat downsized due to the pictures themselves. Just let me say that it is a huge structure. Look it up on Google.
To see them covered in wood was a marvel. One of those moments I instantly compared it to say the Whitney Biennial. Compared it to those pieces that crop up in museum shows that look like failed contractor spaces.
It is so multidimensional even in the photographs. The simple block shapes covered in just two kinds of construction pieces. The wood and the metal screw brackets. Seems so primitive for such a modern process.
It was just so exquisite and stayed up for many years. Over the course I shit numerous pictures. Eventually even documenting the refurbished unveiling of the new art piece.
The finished piece is not as good as this. It’s okay but not nearly up to the gorgeous standard of these shots. Great moment, great memory and great art.
