So A2 is the beginning of the finished idea. A strange bit that shows where I was headed with the production on this piece.
For years Ernesto and I have always heard the sounds of horse drawn carriages on our street. It has always been one of our greatest sonic delights.
We have tried numerous times to capture the oddity. To the point of even keeping a journal of when they would pass. You can even here my voice in this recording.
I know it has been something of a passing political subject. But phooey on them for turning something magical into something banal. The polyester discount suits and mediocre celebrities have struck again.
This idea alone formed the whole idea of the song. The acoustics and reverb are amazing when it happens. There truly is nothing like it. Except for those blackbirds in London.
So this was the treatment for the piece. Record multiple takes with the windows open. Let the outside in.
At first I tried a bit of studio trickery and comped multiple pieces. But it didn’t work and felt insincere.
Then I just recorded it over and over and chose the best one. Just keeping it simple which is usually best.
This is the demo that sets all of that in motion. It has been a long experiment but one I have lived and loved.
