Copy Art

Pop Top is another detail from The Catch Trap. The corner piece of that crazy Monopoly board. It stands on its own quite nicely.

A simple approach, I just lay a pop top on the photocopier and copied away. Doing that old copy of a copy trick to create what you now see as a Photoshop trick. But I didn’t even know of Photoshop then.

Part of my problem with solely digital work is that it needs to be taken in and out of analog and digital processes. The act of pulling anything out of a computer and then back in imparts a character to audio or visual material.

The perfection of something purely digital holds no appeal to me. It is too pristine and doesn’t have the error that I adore.

Not to say that I haven’t posted purely digital works here. I am trying to expand. It is just a general workflow that I find comfortable and extremely relevant.

This will become more of an issue in the coming months as I begin work on audio. I have always felt stilted by not being able to get the sounds out and then back in properly in the same way I do with visual art. I need a work around.

Maybe a reel to reel or playing the audio in real spaces and rerecording. I haven’t quite figured it out. But I will.
