Mountains is a self portrait that was never finished. More unfinished business. It’s extremely important for a few reasons.
The first reason is that this is where the PR-RAW pieces come from. Actually most everything comes from this. It was a simple idea that just blossomed.
The use of magazine imagery was supposed to cover the entire image. My mother’s death curtailed this project. Although it was started before she died, so of course she had commentary.
She asked if I noticed the African American look of my face. I did notice. It was almost an amalgamation between myself and a past boyfriend. Something I always do naturally.
I actually love the piece just as it is. It is precognitive of future work. It shows my hand and it wears its age well. Even the tape tears add nicely to a really old piece.
