Thirty-eight is another delight in the MAZE Series. Four solos. Lots of text. It rules.
Panel 1 is Daniel Clowes’ cover for The New Yorker. I love how the window blinds read as bar codes elsewhere in the piece.
A little Frazetta looking fantasy in panel 2 and some black and white photography with red text in panel 4. Both of which work perfectly with the other two panels.
The Lauder bottle in panel 3 has a strange back story. When I was pairing the crops, I was trying to find the fourth piece for this set. Immediately the commercial for that exact Lauder bottle came on the television. I scrambled to pick the crop up and showed it to Ernesto to prove the synchronicity.
I love how each panel is fighting for supremacy but none are winning. I love that I call them panels. Referring to my love of comic books. Maybe that is how I can justify the giant white crosses that glow with their absence.
I have to stop fixating on that and many other things. Time to wrap this series up and gear up for the next. Only two more pieces in this series before the end.
