Ahh, thirty-six in the MAZE Series sees a return to greatness. Four images totally unrelated working in perfect unison.

The balance and movement I have mentioned in previous posts is here in fine form. But the standout is the amount of interesting texture. The interplay with the textures is stunning.

Also, note how the shapes of the MAZE play with the imagery. Great example in number 4 are the parallelograms that read like triangles on the left side. Lots of lovely synchronicity going on like that throughout the piece.

Actually, many of the pieces work like this for me. The crop or flip will create suggestions or provide optical illusions. It’s exactly what I had hoped would be achieved.

Other times the unexpected occurs. MAZE36-1 was initially an editorial layout featuring jewelry. The girl is wearing a diamond covered airplane ring that looks like a 747. Which initially caused a lot of personal associations and questions. Now that it has been MAZED, it instantly reminds me of the movie Dogtooth.

Many of these now have personal associations. Moments to question why I chose certain imagery over others. Why am I drawn to some ideas repeatedly? Can I alter these innate choices? All great questions.
