Back to the idea of gender and a touch of plastic surgery for number thirty-two in the MAZE Series. Not my favorite, but not horrible. Individually I like some very much, but as a whole they don’t completely gel.
Maybe it’s because I am back to the more is more. The color scheme is pretty subtle. The most jarring color comes just from the dark lighting of Nan Goldin’s photo in MAZE32-3. Which is the second time Nan Goldin’s work has been included. First time is MAZE07.
Sitting here writing this, I realize that the images separately tittilate, but as a whole they don’t. I love 1 and 3, but the other two fall flat in finishing the idea. It seems impulsive that I paired these four.
It doesn’t fill me with shame when I fall a little short. It does help to figure out why it fell short.
I am currently in the process of figuring out how to create mockups that let me see the finished piece without even cutting. Just using masks and layers. It could be a way of removing one of the layers of chance in the process. And could easily help me avoid falling short.
