Two Dior versions of Jessica Stam arrive for the twenty-sixth of the MAZE Series. Red Jessica and Yellow Jessica fight dune and sky. I think the true victor is lots and lots of blonde extensions.
The color combination is almost as great as the obscuring of Jessica’s face. It’s so nicely done especially in MAZE26-4 where it almost skews to J-horror proportions. The obliteration of the face in MAZE26-1 while still retaining a majority of symmetrical eyes appeals to the stickler in me.
The use of simple imagery like the gradient created by blue sky or the sky and dune motif seem to work very easily in this format. They seem to contrast nicely with the geometric cuts.
I was once told by Faith Ringgold that my use of color and composition was astounding. High praise from a high priestess of color and composition. I bring it up here because these pieces are vehicles for color and composition.
Sampled color palettes from mass production magazines rendered in tight isometric, videogame compositions. There’s the blurb if you need one. Now I have to go and write twenty more of these posts so I can move on to the next series.
