I reach halfway through the MAZE Series with number twenty. Originally it was just two painting crops like slot one and two heat photographs like slot 4. Two and three had to be switched out due to cutter malfunction. Two is a leftover from a previous pieces MAZE05 and MAZE10. While slot three features Jessica Stam. Oddly I just watched her host the pre-show for Marc Jacobs last night with her new/crazy Martha Plimpton haircut.
This is a good example of how the cutter flummoxed my best efforts. I keep trying to get back to the beauty and abstraction of MAZE01. Then failure sets in and I spend most of my time playing catch up.
It doesn’t ruin the piece, but it doesn’t create the image I originally intended. That feeling of loss is represented by envelopes of mangled MAZES.
It’s scary that I am only halfway through the series. Twenty more to go. I hope that the cutter and I can come to an agreement in these next twenty.
Two nights ago I started cutting pages for crops and I honestly have no idea where the next run is headed. Lots of text driven pieces. Lots of simple gradations of color. More abstractions and more fodder for the loss folder, I am certain.
