Number 18 in this long MAZE Series features Daniel Clowes, a Twinkie, M.I.A. in a Marc Jacobs ad and panels from the The Dark Knight Returns. I said in a previous post that sometimes I grouped crops according to color or theme, but even I am at a loss to describe how these four fit together.

Fitting them together was also a physical nightmare. The cutter and I fought this entire piece. It took 6 crops to complete instead of the desirable four.

When the cutter is misbehaving, I pull back from my favorite crops. Oddly the Daniel Clowes in slot one made it. If you haven’t read any of his work go out now and buy it. Eightball, Like a Velvet Glove Cast in Iron or David Boring would all be great introductions. Velvet Glove being my favorite.

Back to the piece, I like it but don’t love it, yet. Maybe it will grow more on me throughout the course of this project.

At the end of every series I go back and count how many I love or don’t love to see how pleased I am with my own work. It doesn’t have to be a majority, just a thread of love that wanders through the series.
