Sixteenth in the MAZE Series sees bloodied nosed Batman and Robin meet Madonna from the same Louis Vuitton ad I used for the MadgeLV series. You can see those at MadgeLV1, MadgeLV2, MadgeLV3 and MadgeLV4. I love to go back and revisit ideas in a new way, so…
The image in spot one is the one used for that set. The other two images are from Juxtapoz that tickled my fancy. Mainly due to the sickening color scheme of both.
Again these are magazine crops layered onto cardstock. The flipping process is no longer happening from front to back, just top to bottom rotations. I state this again because I think I am going to print a series of photographs for the last ten. Using my own photographs is just an idea. We will see if it actually happens.
Overall this piece is a success. It completes in just four crops with no added cuts. The imagery is nicely mangled and colors pop like acidic nose bleeds. The resampling of an image used in a completely different work provides a nice loop of personal history.
Plus the positive feedback is building. Everyone is getting past the departure from previous work and seeing beauty. Which is one of the intents.
The best part is that the idea is hopeless. A series of MAZES that are unsolvable, abstracted and don’t work on paper is becoming a process I am working through. The MAZE is hopeless and a dead-end but the process is solvable.
