MAZE07, seventh in the MAZE Series, features some fine art longings. Cindy Sherman, Nan Goldin’s transgendered beauty, a lovely Marc Jacobs advertisement and a touch of Egypt. The few times I have interacted with Cindy Sherman she always had Marc Jacobs on. And the transgendered beauty/Egypt connection is easy.
I wish the whole series was easy. This particular piece took six crops to complete. The bottom two are replacement crops because the plotter/cutter chewed the original two to pieces. Sometimes the lament of loss is such a setback that it almost makes me stop working. I wonder what the final product would have looked like with the original four.
There is always a drive to continue that prevails. I dust myself off and try again. I feel that the point of the failure is to stop me. My success is that I haven’t quit yet.
It has altered the process a bit. I already need to cut more crops to complete the full series of forty. I have a horrible feeling that I should cut another 180.
I have decided that in the next ten I will try to thicken the paper by spraying both sides with a clear spray acrylic. Once again, no brand names. Not until I get that spray acrylic for free.
