Finally the fruits of my artist’s block appear. This is the set of pieces of Karlie Kloss that have caused me to avoid working altogether. Thankfully I have learned to give in/up and move on.
This idea started a couple of years ago. Simple in its origin. Take three of the exact same image, offset them and create a single cut pattern that would produce three distinct versions of the original.
I knew from the beginning that one of the images would be the prime image. It would contain all the eyes and lips from the original Juicy Couture Karlie Kloss advertisement. That would leave two very abstract pieces of just skin and hair.
I started out scanning the original image and creating a hand line drawing of the original advertisement. Now that I think about it, I should scan that and post with the rest of the pieces in this set.
Then I created a three tone stripe. Black, grey and white. Then used the line drawing to distort the stripe. This is very similar to the same process I used for the MPRSS_HRNT Series. Then just reduce those colors to cut lines and run with it.
I didn’t know at the time that the production problems of the idea would cause a complete shut down of my process. In some way the Jerome Isaac pieces were an attempt to break through this block.
