With number twelve in the Itek series I return to the negative of the yesterday’s image. The image is of course of me, Craig Ashby, which I have now said twelve times and makes me fill a little self-absorbed.
So let me rave about that blue dot in the upper right hand side. It’s the first time I see real blue in these negatives. Like a tiny astronomical image of a supernova. A blue cigarette burn. It’s lovely and stands out as one of those tiny mistakes only I relish.
I should also mention the amount of handprints all over the image. It reminds me of the Andy Warhol diaries description of Liza and Mikhail’s sex antics in Halston’s apartment. Maybe that’s only a reference I would get. Which is typical for me.
This image is much better than it’s positive. The solarization fleshes out the forms of the face and hand. Like I said yesterday, the purple covers up the blandness of the pose. And like the previous negatives the textures and colors carry the photograph.
Only four more to go and then a break. Then one last historical series and after that, new pieces. I have been thinking of live blogging the entire thing. Meaning I would be putting the pieces up as they are finished in real-time. I have to wait and see the viability of that option but that’s the hope.
