The song Document 13 has a long history. Ernesto and I started recording music in 2003. That is when we got our first studio gear.
Since that time we have continued to write. So little of those hundreds of songs have ever been presented publicly. Maybe four and a dozen DJ Mixes.
This has always bothered me. Tons of possibility and few results. That ends today.
Part of the problem has been my confidence level with finishing pieces. It isn’t as easy as it is for me to complete art. I can completely conceptualize and execute visual pieces and have even mastered when to stop. With music the job is much harder for me.
After a long time away we decided to return to this piece. A piece that every single time it came on I was haunted by its melancholy. It gnawed at me.
So I asked Ernesto to finish the writing and still left it untouched for a couple of years. Mainly because I had an idea of recording the piano live in the space we live in. With all the surrounding exterior noise of New York City.
It took a long time to finally see that dream realized. Then longer still to work the previously created layers in to the new recording. Even longer to work out what the song needed instead of forcing my will on it.
Here it is accompanied by the Super Glue Chaos watercolor. A sad and dark watercolor that dares the forbidden black of such a light medium. An equal pairing to the song itself.
Speaking of pairing, this is a call. To anyone who is musically or artistically inclined. We are looking to work with others. We need your help.
