Cracked 1 is the beginning of another photography series. In a city full of glass you are bound to see broken windows. Plus the way they patch the broken window is art at its best.
Just look at this solar monstrosity of duct tape and something that resembles caulk. It’s better than a lot of stuff I see in galleries. Plus it’s a fine self-portrait to boot.
Cracked glass and mirrors is a thing I have used in a J-LOLV piece before. It came across as cracked LCD due to the color layers. Still effective in exploring my obsession with broken glass.
Maybe it is an obsession with superstition. All glass is reflective. There is something ominous about seeing a storefront window cracked. It conjures thoughts of looting, accident and robbery. None of which are good.
And still I find myself there. Shooting the same shots. Including myself. Even though I could take a different angle.
What does that say about how I perceive myself? Why am I drawn instinctively to this imagery? It’s a constant pull to the darker side of thought.
Don’t draw to many easy conclusions. It’s more about greater possibilities in beauty than anything else. Finding wonder in the broken. Finding that same wonder in me.
