Copy Art
These came about while making a flyer for a movie night for people I worked with at the National AIDS Hotline. I was showing a movie called Dick and then Sandra Bernhard’s seminal classic Without You I Am Nothing. I still quote that movie and even did so today.
That event flyer was less fun than this piece from the same era. A simple trick of using the copiers inability to make every copy register. Emphasized by the use of two different colors.
In my mind I know how easy this is to do today. In the age of Photoshop, achieving this idea is just a few clicks of work. But this post not blog is about the ease of today.
It is more about showing how things were done before easy happened. Even now in the age of easy my work is time consuming, laborious and tedious. Most of all they are works of love.
So at first glance it may seem simple. Until you realize the minority of people playing with photocopiers. It dwindles even greater to see someone who lugged this shit around for twenty years. Even smaller is the number of people scanning and posting it on their own site.
