Another lifts its title from the baseball hat. A portrait of my estranged brother Mark. It’s a sad photograph but still a good one.
The sadness stems from the estrangement. A lifetime of off and on friendship with my only living full blood relative. It aches less now that I feel nothing.
Why do I like it? Because it’s heads down photography long before Crystal Castles. It says a lot about how I lived at the time. Tiny signifiers of a strange life in Chapel Hill.
Then there is the issue of my hand blurring out the upper left corner. Amateur at best and worst simultaneously. A time capsule of a moment that seems eternal and important.
You can see an unfinished painting behind the hand. One of the ones I was planning to do based on the ITEK Series. More unfinished work.
The piece should be called Unfinished. The whole thing should be. I should change the name of the website.
