My second attempt at shooting the Macy’s Fourth of July Fireworks. A lot has changed since the first round. The venue has moved to the Hudson River. The camera was replaced free of charge by Canon well after the warranty expired.
All of this was due to a CCD failure in my older camera. Which was a known issue. I have a series of pictures from the time of the CCD failure that are fun. Expect a set of those shortly.
I mention Canon only because the customer service experience was amazing. They replaced everything free of charge from extra battery packs to memory cards.
My only issue is that I think the replacement camera is not as good. And the pictures are less breathtaking. I still get good shots, but they don’t have the impact the initial camera had.
As for this set of fireworks, Ernie and I just walked down our street to the West Side Highway and set up the tripod. We set up in an island in the middle of the street. Hence the trees and street lighting in some of the shots.
The entire time the fireworks are happening I am shooting. So this is an extremely culled set. All of these photo sets are an attempt to work my photo editing skills. It also shows that even when I am not creating paintings or collage the work still continues.
The set itself features an amazing first shot that reminds me of atomic palm trees. Lots of explosive fireworks floral arrangements. And a few shots that show light pollution’s toxic effect on color and trees.
An interesting side note. This is the very same night that I found the wood that is the background for this website. On the walk home it was piled into a dumpster on the side of the street. We dug it out and checked for nails and hauled it home.
