2006 Street Paper

The 2006 edition of Street Paper sees eight images. Three of which show a poorly pasted Lauryn Hill. Oh, Lauryn, you’re like the forgotten Amanda Bynes. Your troubles barely get any press these days.

Well except for that latest bit about your taxes and being sentenced to counseling concerning your conspiracy theories. I can’t judge on either. Just taking note.

So three pictures of Lauryn’s face synchronistically halved. Hinting at a split personality. Hinting at possible mental health troubles. The distortion of these pictures really spoke to me.

It’s that precognitive art ability I spoke of earlier with the Karen Mulder piece. It happens from time to time. I am glad I take note and get the image. Just following my own little muse.

Note that these are separate pieces. The three shots taken of two different paste ups. From different angles. One looks like crying, the other like a massive facial cleft.

The rest features all the regulars. Bäst leads off with a lovely ode to horror. Always just enough of that alternative culture in layout. It’s screams Re/Search and plays to my alt culture background.

Next up a serpent around a cracked egg with the words Jesus Saves. Which always brings to mind a Details write-up on graffiti found at the first Lollapalooza. The quote read, “Jesus saves sinners and redeems them for valuable cash prizes.”

That quote still makes me giggle. And then I think deeply about it. What is Jesus doing with all those souls he is saving? A good imagination can leave you chilled with the possibilities.

The set finishes out with a lovely glamour shot. A colorful piece by Burns. And finally rabbits with giant teeth. One rabbit sporting an enormous gold tooth all by Branded.
