Now we come to the end of my first digital point and shoot era with CCD Failure 1. The original compact flash Powershot started slowly producing these gorgeous images.
It all started with a distortion of the whites and a slight purple coloration. Nothing too severe. Sometimes a heavy graininess. Then everything got progressively worse.
Eventually the whites turned into ice stalactites. All color left, leaving only a pinkish purple. I love these images. They follow in the tradition of glitch that I have explored in other series.
The act of something not doing what it was intended to do is attractive. A question as to whether it is unwilling to cooperate or just failing. This question is very personal and I struggle with it. As above, so below.
The importance negates the question. It doesn’t matter if it is absolute failure and near death or a conscious decision and act of rebellion. Beauty is still made.
And the camera eventually failed completely. Going totally black. I tried to get as many of these photos as possible at the time.
I have mentioned in a prior post how Canon replaced everything well after the warranty with no charge to me. Maybe the replacement SD camera was not as good, but a big shout out to Canon.
